PSALM 109: Dixit Dominus

Youtube performance by La Capella Cervantina (Horacio Franco, director) from a different edition

Francisco López Capillas (1608-1674) is widely believed to be the first native-born New World composer, and his works for double choir are among his most beautiful works. Capillas served as chapelmaster at the Cathedral of Mexico City for many years, accounting for the addition of Capillas to his name. The double chorus works, however, were probably composed for the Cathedral of Puebla, where he served before going to Mexico City.
