DREI DUETTEN for 2-Part Treble Choir
JOHANNA KINKEL (1810–1858) was a German composer, writer, teacher, and political activist. During her lifetime this multi-talented woman was a musician, an organizer of community music groups, a teacher, a lecturer on musicology, a conductor, a newspaper editor and writer, a political activist, a revolutionary, a wife and mother of four, a novelist, and a published composer. The Drei Duetten on poems of Heinrich Heine were composed during her years in Berlin, where she was associated with intellectuals and artists such as Bettina von Arnim, Fanny Mendelssohn Hensel, Felix Mendelsohn, Georg von Brentano, and Clara and Robert Schumann. They were composed for Soprano and Alto duet, but can also be performed by 2-part treble choir.
