1-1/2 minute excerpt, beginning at Rehearsal Letter B, using piano
Evocative and sometimes unsettling, this work for viola and keyboard (synthesizer or piano) was originally composed as underscoring for Lady Macbeth’s sleepwalking scene (Act V, scene i—“Out, damned spot! out, I say!”) in Shakespeare’s play. The scoring offers considerable latitude for the keyboardist to explore different timbres and effects, especially in the fast moving middle section.
