HAMLET OVERTURE, A

synthesized demo

This 6-1/2 minute work is scored for two flutes, two clarinets, two percussion, harp and strings, with pivotal and effective parts for harp and marimba. It was originally composed for a production of Shakespeare’s HAMLET by the Nebraska Shakespeare Festival. It has complex rhythmic and metric patterns that create an exciting buildup of tension and energy, and then ends with an extended, almost peaceful, if tragic, denoument.
