SSA | Treble Grade 4
IF I HAD A RIBBON BOW
This is a traditional folksong from Kentucky. I’ve arranged it with a steadily flowing piano accompaniment, but guitar could also be added (a chord chart is included). It moves along quickly and captures both the poignancy and frustration of a lonely mountain girl, who is sure she’s just as good as those city girls.
DURATION: 2:30

THE WAVES ON THE SEA, HOW THEY ROLL
This is a traditional ballad with roots in 17th century Britain, but today is more widely known as a bluegrass standard. It’s a rousing song with a challenging piano accompaniment in a bluegrass style. Add mandolin, banjo, guitar and bass for even more fun.
DURATION: 3:15
String Orchestra Grade 3
NGUOI O DUNG VE (Oh My Loved Ones, Do Not Leave)
This is a Quan Ho folk song originating in northern Vietnam, a type of song often sung as a tender, loving farewell at the end of village festivals. There are optional solos at the beginning, counter-melodies and phrases passed back and forth among all parts, and a richly detailed and expressive approach to articulation, phrasing and dynamics.
DURATION: 4:00
