GESUALDO FOR STRINGS

synthesized demos
Aestimatus sum

Moro, lasso, al mio duolo

Volan quasi farfalle

Although Don Carlo Gesualdo, Prince of Venosa may be best known for the lurid details of his personal life, his music is magnificently expressive, expertly crafted, and harmonically groundbreaking. These five-voice vocal pieces (two madrigals and a liturgical responsory) adapt themselves well to the string orchestra medium, and provide string players the opportunity to experience the work of this remarkable Italian Renaissance composer.
