NGUOI O DUNG VE (Oh My Loved Ones, Do Not Leave) for String Orchestra

NGUOI O DUNG VE (Oh My Loved Ones, Do Not Leave) performance by Klein Cain High School (Houston) conducted by Sundas Mohi-Truong.

Người ở đừng về  is one of many Quan Ho folk songs originating in Bắc Ninh province of northern Vietnam. They are sung antiphonally by alternating groups at spring village festivals, usually as farewell songs. Some notable things about this arrangement include:

• Optional solos at the beginning;
• Counter-melodies and underlying repeated note figures, requiring careful attention to balance and precision;
• Melodic phrases passed back and forth among all parts;
• Detailed articulation and dynamic markings.
